Product Questions
Q: What type of splice protectors are used with the OAsys® products?
A: The standard splice protector used within the OAsys equipment is a heat shrink
protector Ø2.2mm x 45mm. However, other splice protectors can be accommodated in some equipment
such as crimp protectors and Ø2.4mm x 45mm and 2.5mm x 60mm heat shrink splice protectors.
Q: What applications are the OAsys® splice enclosures (joints) suitable for?
A: The OAsys® product range contains joints for many different applications
ranging from traditional underground chamber joints, direct joints, and aerial applications. Please
see the
application
matrix for specific information.
Q: Which type of cable sealing mechanism is best?
A: The type of sealing method to be used depends on the applications /
environment. Both mechanical and heat shrink seals can be used on the OAsys product range and offer
a good cable sealing solution. Please contact us to discuss your exact application / requirement.
Q: What is the IP rating of the OAsys® splice enclosures (joints)?
A: All external OAsys products exceed IP68 and are tested to BT LN450
Specification .
Q: What space is required in underground chambers to fit the OAsys® splice enclosures
(joints) within them?
A: Details of the space required is shown on the relevant product datasheet
available on this website.
Q: Are all the joints compatible for use with Sirocco® Blown Fibre?
A: Two joints (Compact Node and Blown Fibre Generic Joint) have been specifically
designed for compatibility with the Sirocco® blown fibre system. Please see the specific product
datasheets available on this website for more information.
Q: What types of exchange racks are included within the OAsys® product range?
A : The OAsys® product range includes many different products (see application
matrix) but they can be split into two types of applications. Exchange racks are available for
fusion (hard) splice applications (the Generic Rack Range ) or for splice / patching applications
(OBX1000, ORDJ10, ORDJ6.3). The specific product information is available on each product datasheet
available from this website.
Q: What is the maximum fibre capacity that each of the exchange racks can
accommodate?
A: The maximum fibre capacity of each rack is dependent upon the exact
configuration used, and what type of fibre management is selected on the splice tray (single
circuit or single element). The application matrix identifies the maximum possible for each
product, and further information is available on each product datasheet available from this
website.
Q: How are the various OAsys® exchange racks supplied?
A: All the racks are designed for modular build so that the minimum configuration
can be installed on "day one" and capacity added at a later stage as and when required. The Generic
racks are supplied in flat packs ready for one-man assembly in exchanges, whereas the OBX1000,
ORDJ10, ORDJ6.3 are pre-built to the exact customers configuration and delivered to site as a
complete rack (if requested).
Q: Is any specialist installation equipment required for the installation of the
products?
A: Only standard tools such as conventional screwdrivers and sockets are required
for the installation of the exchange equipment.
Q: Are the racks compatible with any type of connector?
A: The OBX1000, ORDJ10, and ORDJ6.3 are compatible with the following types of
connector - ST, FC, SC, E2000, and LC. Din connectors can be supplied on special request. The
Generic racks are for fusion (hard) splice applications only.
Q: How are cables inserted into the racks?
A: Cables can be installed into the racks via overhead or under floor entries to
the racks. All products are supplied with installation manuals, and further specific product
information is available on the datasheet available from this website.
